ONLINE VISA APPLICATION: Fill in your visa application and pay the application fee online using https://applyvisa.um.dk/. After you have applied and paid the visa fee online, you must print and sign the cover letter from ApplyVisa and hand in supporting documents and supply biometrics at the Embassy of Denmark in Helsinki.
Who needs to apply
You might need to apply for a visa for travelling to Faroe Islands or Greenland, even though you have a Finnish residence permit. Read more via this link.
When should you apply
You can apply up to 6 months before your trip. The average processing time is 15 calendar days, but it can take even longer if the application is forwarded to European security checks, or for another reason delayed, depending on the individual case.
Be aware that the waiting time to submit your application/biometrics at the embassy can be long.
The Danish Mission recommends that you do not buy a plane ticket before your visa has been approved.
Supporting documents required for a visa application:
- Application form – printed and signed ApplyVisa-cover letter. Signature must match the one in your passport.
- Current passport – issued within the last 10 years, valid for at least three months beyond the intended stay, signed and must have at least two blank pages + colour copies of all pages of the passport.
- Valid Schengen residence card/sticker – original Schengen residence permit must be shown + colour copies of both sides of the permit.
- Proof of sufficient funds for the stay - original bank statement showing the balance and your full name and address, covering the last 3 months.
- If sponsored by spouse: Marriage certificate + sponsor letter + spouse's bank statement
- Minors sponsored by a parent: Birth certificate + sponsor letter + parent's bank statement - Purpose of stay - documentation of intended travel dates / itinerary. For example flight/ferry/hotel/cruise reservations, invitation from host in Greenland/Faroe Islands.
- Business travellers – invitation from host.
Additional documentation when the applicant is a minor (< 18 years):
- Original birth certificate for the minor indicating both parents’ names
- Written consent of both parents/guardians for issuance of visa
- Original passport or ID cards (with signature) of both parents + residence permits, if applicable
- Original letter of enrolment from educational institution
- In case one parent has sole custody or guardianship of the minor, documentation must be provided.
If you are applying as a family member of an EU/EEA citizen: Bring with you the EU/EEA citizen's original passport, original marriage certificate or birth certificate, original residence card based on EU/EEA family member, proof of reserved tickets travelling with the EEA citizen.
No photos are needed – these are included in the biometrics recording that will be done at the Embassy.
