Who needs to apply

You might need to apply for a visa for travelling to Faroe Islands or Greenland, even though you have a Finnish residence permit. Read more via this link.

When should you apply

You can apply at the earliest 3 months before the beginning of your trip. The Embassy recommends that you hand in your application 1–2 months beforehand. Your application will processed in 15 days, but it can take up to few weeks if the application is forwarded to European security checks, or for another reason delayed, depending on the individual case.

Supporting documents required for a visa application to Faroe Islands and Greenland

  • A valid passport with a valid residence permit in Finland is to be presented when applying. Both need to be valid at least for another three months after the return day from Faroe Islands or Greenland.
  • Colour copies of every single page of the passport – including empty pages and the front and back cover – need to be handed in with the application. The same applies for your Finnish residence permit card.
  • Copy of the return flight ticket.
  • No photos are needed – these are included in the biometrics recording that will be done at the Embassy.
  • Invitation from the person receiving you in Faroe Islands or Greenland, and/or travel plan indicating hotel bookings for the whole stay.

To hand in your supporting documents, please book an appointment at the Danish Embassy in Helsinki by sending an e-mail to helambconsular@um.dk.
